Hospitals are often one of the most noisy environments one can be in indoors. This can be extra distressing as being in a hospital whether as a patient or an employee can often be stressful enough as is. A Wall Street Journal article from 2013 states that noise is often the largest complaint both hospital employees & patients make. It can delay healing and cause distractions to doctors who often need to make snap judgements.
Sound artist Mark Vernon researched this issue at a hospital in Scotland. He interviewed patients & employees about sounds they find relaxing and would rather hear in the hospital environment as well as releasing an album of the ambient sounds found throughout a hospital typically.
